New and Stuff Posted by zealotta on Jun 05, 2012
Hello! I'm a self-trained puppeteer and puppet builder, and have been since I was 12 years old. I still feel that I have a lot more to learn about this art, and am looking to educate myself by observing the practices of more skilled puppeteers. I am currently updating my online portfolio, as it is now a full year behind, so I will put up a link when it is done.
I've mostly done stage and street performance, but recently completed my first film project, which is what I'll show you in the meantime until my portfolio is once again presentable. A college film student asked me to be the puppet wrangler and a performer in his short film. In it, I play Hoboken (the clown) and Copper (the dog.)
Hoboken was purchased by the director and customized by me, as I made him function as a marionette in addition to his existing hand puppet function by adding fishing line to his head and back.
I made Copper years ago as a class project for theatre, and he was my first attempt at building a double-rod puppet (in the film, his rods were temporarily removed and his hands and arms were tied up, because he was a kidnappee.)
I also gave a quick puppetry lesson to the actor who played Skunklor, who had never operated a puppet before.
Another puppet that I built and designed, Brooke the Bunny, makes a cameo in the family portrait that Copper holds up in the film. She's my most recent creation.
So, that's that! Enjoy the show:

Oops! I don't know why it's having trouble loading. At least for me, anyway. If you're also having trouble viewing the video, click the text in red with the title of the video, "The Mellow Mesa Muppet Massacre on Vimeo" and it should take you to it in another tab.

Welcome to PandS! Not sure why the embed does not work. Perhaps the video is not set to be shared.
Interesting video... not sure I followed everything in the plot but liked some of the bits. Thought the use of glitter and streamers was pretty ingenious. Kudos on adding the strings to the hand puppet. Worked out pretty well for the scene.
