Looking for hair Posted by The Director on Jun 05, 2012
:-\Not for myself though I could use more.  A couple of my Pelham vent puppets have thinned hair. I have searched the web and been to every fabric store in town. Nothing.  It comes on a fabric roll, that shaggy lambswool type stuff.  Looking for yellow.  These puppets were made in the 70s. When the one on my profile came from e bay, about a quarter of the hair was disintegrated.  It was horrific when I opened the package, but was able to brush it off and a good rug remained.  Not so much with some of the others. I know I can buy cheep wigs but I would like to keep things as close to the original as possible, Thanks.

You can usually find lambs wool in any of the craft or fabric stores. It does not come on a roll though but in a bag and is loose.  I was looking at your gallery photos and I think that is what the hair is. You then glue it to the head. You might have trouble finding it in a color but it is a natural fiber so you can dye it using Rit. http://www.ritdye.com/  Again you can find Rit in craft or fabric stores.

As a doll maker for many years I have used wool roving and actual tibetan lambs wool pelts for hair.  You can get these in a variety of colors from many doll making supply sites.  Here are two of my favorites.

They have all kinds of things that puppet makers can use too.

Did you ever get the hair sorted out? What did you do to fix it?
