Haha, The Director. The Sockpuppet theatre clips are well funny! Check out the 'Stop Killing your pets' video, its brilliant. Such a simple idea reading out the 'Troll Rage' on comments sections, I'm really impressed. Just goes to show, great ideas are all around staring us in the face waiting for us to take notice! Full marks to them, original and funny!

I kind of like the off kilter eyes!   Nice production value on the videos. How many caught the background puppet in the coffee shop?

Yes Shawn, I mentioned to check out the activity in the backgrounds.  One of the videos is in a library and there is a librarian puppet in the background moving a cart through the book shelves.  Lots of thought going into this.

I found this today. It kind of reminds me of my Auntie charactor.  They appear to be wearing rubber full body suits making them human puppets.
Re: Hidden Treasures on Youtube Posted by Shawn on Jan 03, 2013
Interesting. Not full body suites I am pretty sure but operated by more then one puppeteer. If you look at the shot in the lower right of the screen you can see ghosting at the elbow of the older lady. Pretty sure that is from green screen and you are getting a faint image of the puppeteers arm that enters at the elbow of the puppet. In other clips you'll notice the elbow are below the table or view line.   I would say they take two to three puppeteers for each one.

I agree Shawn. They have a similar TV show here. Heads are latex, cast from clay sculpts of popular, or unpopular politicians etc. These ones seem to have eye mechanisms too, and most are two or three man puppets. Your observations on the green screen old lady, very good.

That is a clip from ZA News, a popular political web series from South Africa loosely based on Spitting Image (in fact, they were recently visited by one of the Spitting Image co-creators Roger Law!). They use a mixed bag of techniques to film the show, including green screen and a variation on the Czech black technique.

Here is a behind-the-scenes special about the show that includes a number of shots of the puppeteers at work:

Excellent behind the scenes! Really shows all the aspects of putting the show together. Love the fact that they showed them working with the easy chairs and the positions the puppeteers have to work from.

Check this one out. The Sandglass Theater.  more creative ways to combine puppets and people.

Very nice collaboration! I always enjoy the work of Sandglass Theater. The "marionette" used in the crawling scene is wonderful!
