Welcome Codyart1
Re: Another Newbie Posted by Rikka on Jun 14, 2012
Well, I admit: I was totally in love with Richard Teschners work (the video), I even bought "Richard Teschner und sein Figurenspiegel" that was issued from the Museum of Vienna. Sadly there wasn't all that much on building the figures but more on how he got on this track (he started with marionettes...). The reason for me to choose BJD- style is the following: like Henson in Dark Crystal I am intrigued by the "naked puppet", I'd really love to show "skin" (Teschner did in other puppets, too http://payload.cargocollective.com/1/2/88505/1622208/05-50watts-richard-teschner.jpg ). I did think, too, that it might be more easy to keep the puppet stable if it was "stiffer" then a cloth bodied puppet. And I have to agree: those joints are a PAIN. I am still figuring out how to do it best. I am working on puppet 11 or 12 or so, trashed most of them. But I see that I have come far until now. I'll post my first true success. (Well, I am self taught, so I have to live with a LOT of trial and error...)

Well, Rikka now I see why the BJD style would be a good option.  Yes, I'd love to see your results when you are ready to show.  But, hopefully you don't toss out your failures.  They are great to see just how far you have come.

Thanks for the welcome and great info y'all.  This is such a friendly place.

It really is, I am very happy to be here. Nay, I didn't toss them all out (some I did, though), so my room looks like very dark medicinal experiments on very small people happened there...
I do have some stuff in my gallery, feel free to have a look. Up until now I use aluminium tubes so that the doll will have enough "hollowness" to allow it to be stringed. This I cover with Fimo Puppen (easy to get here, since it's German)while some of the "upholstery" (breasts, head, muscles) is made with tin foil. I am now trying not to use elastics (the knots show much too much for my liking) but pull springs(is that right?) and fishing line- not hard to get here, I live very close to a big river.
