Hey everyone. Question about a website. Posted by squirrely on Jul 12, 2012
What is Puppet Hub?  Was about to join but stopped.  Had to pay of course.  That's okay.  But here, it's better.  Puppet Hub is Puppetry Arts and what else?

Puppet hub started as it says a network of puppet type people who can join that group or create there own group. It started out "free" and was created using http://www.ning.com/ but as time went by and the site continued to grow they found it necessary to charge a nominal fee to maintain the site. Below are the links explain the fees, etc.

I once was a member and had my own group but had my hands in so many sites and not enough time to maintain them all so I closed my account with puppet hub. I am perfectly happy here at home with the Puppets and stuff community.

Thank you, Fuller.  Just wanted the facts.  I am thinking of making my own group on meetup.com.  A puppeteers group.  But don't really know if a lot of puppeteers are in San Antonio, TX.

I joined puppet hub in the free days as well, but never spent much time there. P&S made it easy for me to keep up on all the latest posts from everyone here, whereas at Puppet Hub you kind of had to work at it to see what was going on. There are some great people over there, some of them used to be here, but found PH to be better for them.

Puppet Hub is a good site.  The format is a bit different but I don't think they are quite as active over there as we are here.  I did go ahead and pay my membership over there and check in each day but replies are slow to things often.  It is still free to read everything you just have to pay if you want to post.

Squirrely

There are some puppeteers in San Antonio (I've sold them some puppets). A lot of churches have puppet ministries, and some puppeteers are involved in other areas as well.

The Puppet Community is free and there are groups but there doesn't seem to be any activity. This site rocks.  I am an assistant organizer in an outdoor meet up group but we have almost 2000 members.  It takes that to get a handful of active ones.  I visited a movie making group that is struggling along. It's easy to get members but commitment isn't.  If you are up for the task and can take dis sapointment and drama go for it.  You will have to pay to start a meet up group.  My nephew just started a sketch meet up and I've had to mentor him along.  If you want training to be a leader it is priceless, but you can also learn to hate people if you are not prepared.  Puppets are so much easier to work with LOL! I hope this doesn't sound negative.

I do not think it is negative...........it takes a lot of work and dedication to keep a forum or group going. Shawn welcomed me aboard many years ago and it has been very much fun. I have always felt it is important to welcome all new members, try to reply to all post, and when the forum is slow I try to keep it going by asking questions and such.

.. well in the short time I have been here I am impressed by the level of commitment of particularly Shawn , and  Billy. I commend you! It must take a large chunk of their day.

I took a very long leave of absence from P&S, and puppetry in general when pretty much every aspect of my world was suddenly changed. Some of my past life I say, "Thank God and Greyhound You're Gone!" All the time I had no time to be here, I missed it tremendously. This is a great forum, and I know from personal experience that some of the folks here are even nicer in the physical world than they seem here in the electronic world, and they seem awfully dang nice in the electronic.

I'm hoping to get started in puppets again, and have all kinds of ideas and wishes spinning around in the back of my brain. I look forward to asking one hundred million questions, because there are so many talented and creative people willing to share whatever they know.

None of this is to gainsay PuppetHub. There are great people there. For me, the format just didn't work. I didn't want to go to the trouble of inviting people I didn't know to be "friends." I don't even do that on Facebook. I like the forum structure here, I like being able to set up my bookmark to bring up all the topics I haven't read since my last visit, and Bang! Zoom! I'm back off in my favorite kind of fantasy land.
