Do you have a "Puppet Museum" near you. Posted by The Director on Jul 12, 2012
Hope this is the right place. Interestingly Syracuse N.Y. has had a museum for a decade or so in a beautiful building that looks like a castle. Strange I was only there once over 10 years ago and it is fairly close by, so i should go check it out again. How many of these places are around?

Museum of International Masks and Puppets
Syracuse Mayor Stephanie Miner and and Onondaga County Executive Joannie Mahoney cut the ribbon as Open Hand Theater proudly opened our newly renovated Castle on North Salina Street, built in the heart of Syracuse in 1890.
The Grand Re-Opening took place Thursday October 20, 2011 with Open Hand Theater supporters and a gallery of our Classic Puppets.
Please call ahead for an appointment to visit our beautiful museum and theater. (315) 476-0466
Art is one of the most eloquent ways that a people have to tell about themselves. Masks and puppets present that eloquence in a tangible, approachable form, offering a view of a culture in miniature.
Puppet Theater is ridiculous yet sublime.
It is where the trickster and transformation meet. As an art form it transcends many classifications between folk art and fine art; between religion and irreverent mockery; between community celebration and political criticism.
Open Hand Theater’s Museum of International Masks and Puppets is an entrance point into historical, traditional and changing cultures, offering comparisons as a way to celebrate our human experience.

There is a Museum in Lübeck and I wanted to go there for ages but I never had a chance yet. I just saw that they'll have an international fair in September/ October

I think maybe places like this are more common then we may realize. In Kansas City there are two places that display puppets.
I've mentioned before the Puppetry Arts Institute (PAI) in past post. It is open Tuesday thru Saturday 10 am - 5 pm. Not only does it have the museum aspect but also presents workshops and performances. It is not a huge space but they really pack the puppets into the displays. Well worth the $3.00 for adults or $1.50 for children donation.

The Toy & Miniature Museum of Kansas City is much larger. It is in an old 38 room house. Thieu hours are Wed. – Sat: 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Sunday: 1 p.m. - 4 p.m. While the majority of their displays are toys or miniatures they do have quite a few puppets on display. In fact at one time they had an entire room of puppets and also did puppet shows.
