'The Boar and Axe' Project Posted by ArthurS on Jul 16, 2012
I belong to a joust team and a medieval reenactment group. The later is having our big event this weekend. We provide an inn for lunch and have named our inn, The Boar and Ax (One of the two groups I'm head of, and who are hosting it, symbol is a red boar and the other an ax). So I am trying to put together puppets for the Inn. Here is the progress so far.

Great idea! Looking good so far... can't wait to see them finished.

Axe is done. Mouth ended up being simply a wire going through the haft.
Boar is awaiting sewing and purchase of fur. Hopefully will get that tonight.

I like them both! can't decide which is my favorite.

Sweet! I like them both also. I think for me the Axe wins simply because of it's uniqueness. That is one fierce looking Boar though.

Ok sorry to get off topic here but I was looking at your gallery of pictures and saw this one.
How did that end up working for you? I like the concept you have there since it would give you a nice solid link to the mouth. I was also thinking that instead of two wires that you could use a wooden dowel and put screw eyes in about where you had bent the one hanger. So you would have the dowel which may be a bit more stable and then your wire running up it through the screw eyes.
BTW: I like the finished hobbit also.

Thank you both! This puppet making stuff is WAY too much fun!
Shawn. The Hobbit works good, but not great. The one does need to be a dowel or something because when you move the mouth, it works, but the top wire flexes a bit, so the whole puppet moves. Not bad, but its noticeable. Making that one something solid should fix that.

I like the axe better, too. Makes me think of Munchkin...
