My Marionette collection... Posted by marionettics on Jul 23, 2012
Haven't really posted much since I signed up, but I do enjoy reading through the threads on here and wanted to start my own as I'm uploading some of my marionettes to youtube. I did a couple of my small 4 stringers last month but I'm starting to put up some of my others now and would really love you guys to take a look and let me know what you think, either here or over on youtube.

Any questions, comments or even criticism are all welcome... I might even start taking requests if I can get a few views. Thanks for watching, hope you enjoyed 'em!

Nice work! You sync on the mouth is very good. I would like to see a lighter background though so that the puppet stands out. I realize that if your strings are black that makes them show more but that does not bother me.

Thanks for checking out the vids Shawn, really appreciate it....
As for the lighting, I would've liked to have the marionettes lit a little better myself. I did try a second light but found it washed out the faces, but I will have a play around with a few different coloured back drops for future videos. I'm hoping I can get a little help with the filming down the line so I can do a little more, but right now I'm really just stuck to the fixed camera angle. I'll probably get someone to do a live recording of a performance too at some point so you can see them in natural light and I wont have to be hanging over an oversized clothes rack trying to operate them.

I follow you and shared you on Facebook. Marvellous. Maybe a red curtain would fit: the show theme and it would be a bit lighter (but not too light, so that the strings would not show)? I think you did a spiffy job on the lighting.

Thanks so much Rikka, I really appreciate you taking the time to watch my vids and share them on facebook, I really do appreciate the feedback and support!
Also, love the idea of the red curtain as a back drop, would really suit the vegas singer too I think... kinda makes me want to build a whole stage for him now and get a little spot light on him too though!
Thanks so much for the input guys, has given me plenty to think about and work towards.

You are welcome! I don't know how many views you will get this way, but I hope you get plenty! For the vegas singer you could try to find gauze studded with glass stones. I've seen that in our local hobby store and it really made my eyes sparkle. I didn't have an excuse to use it, though...

I'm not really expecting 1000's of views anyway, its mostly just been done to document my own work for myself and to be honest, I'm not really clued up on how to promote my work online.... Don't even use my facebook page! But I really do appreciate you and anyone else who takes the time out to take a look at my vids, so thanks very much.

Excellent work! I'll check out the site and have Patsy subscribe. How do you do that lip sink?

To avoid any copyright problems I have had to use youtube approved music, via youtubes audioswap feature, so for me, it was a case of doing an almost finished edit (making sure to leave a little extra at the start of the track), uploading it to youtube, then using the audioswap to layer the music track onto my video, then just trimming the front of my video 1/10 of a second at a time using youtubes own editing software until I got it as close as I could.... If you had your own soundtrack/ music you could layer the music over the recording using windows live movie maker which would be alot simpler.
Thanks for watching & glad you enjoyed it.

I had wondered how folks where doing that. Actually figured that you and others where using the audio swap feature but did not know how much work it took.
