If you want to promote your business or anything else on FB, what is the best way to go about this?  There seem to be several options.  Also, any suggestions regarding making people aware that you are on FB?  Someone on here has had to already traveled this road, no sense in reinventing the wheel.

Re - web site.  Should one change the search words (there is a name for this - I am NOT a techie) that the crawlers look for periodically?  I am still considering adding a blog with tips, wondering if there is anything else that anyone feels has helped them? 

One more question - what is a good number of product (puppets) to show on a web site?  I am thinking of cutting some of ours, and trying to get a feel for what is enough and what is too much.

Well first of course you need to be registered with FB. Once you do that I would suggest creating a page for your business or other interest. I'll leave the how to on that up to the FB help section. One thing I might suggest is creating a registration/login that is just for your business instead of using your personal account. That way you can separate out all that personal stuff easier. 

You also have the option of creating a Group but I would suggest not doing that. Instead join some of the existing groups out there and get involved with them.

Are you talking about keywords? Keywords are normally used in the header of a page (not something you see) and at one time search engines used them to index your site for searching. Folks used to take advantage of that so now they don't rely on them as much. Keywords now must match content in the page they are used on to be of any real use. No real reason to change them unless the content of the page is changed. Mine have stayed the same for years. That being said with something like a blog since it is dynamic you have the option to control the keywords for each blog post. Still though they should match the content of the entry. For example if you did a post on shadow puppets you would want to make sure that was part of your keywords but one on marionettes would instead want to make sure you have used marionette as a keyword.  That is kind of simplifying the whole thing but should give you an idea.

BTW: Didn't you have a website? Can't seem to find it in your Profile. Have I gone and broken something with all my piddling.

I finally started a facebook page under my character "Patsy Hoolahan"  Not really sure how to promote it or what to put on it other than video links. I couldn't get it to link with the youtube site. I would like there to be something on there that makes it different from the youtube site. I had Patsy make comments on a few other puppet facebook pages.  I was thinking of making separate pages for a few different characters so they can interact, but i may start to go insane.

I looked for the Patsy Hoolahan page on Facebook, but couldn't find it. I figured the least I could do his hit the "Like" button for it to start spreading Patsy's name around the globe. One way you promote it is to ask all your Facebook friends to like the page, and let it travel from there.

Ok, found Patsy and sent a friend request. I'm no Facebook expert, but are you sure you want to set up a page that folks need to send friend requests (or vice versa)? Looking very quickly at Facebook's Create a page, I would probably choose to create an entertainment page with a fictional character from the dropdown box.

I've just done this with MacGillicuddy Monster and then sent out notifications to everyone on my friends list (a clumsy procedure, I only have a couple hundred friends and had to click on each of them individually).

Now, what am I going to do with MacGillicuddy's page? Maybe a serial story, updated every couple of days? Hmmmm...

Can I switch it to an entertainment page or did I blow it.  Also was it blocked or open.  I am not really promoting it from myself as most of my friends have no idea what I am doing. I've tried to keep it separate from the many parts of my life. You can really annoy your friends when you try to promote your projects. I am also very guarded about my personal identity on the web.  I have to work through that. Thanks for those thoughts

You can always start fresh with an entertainment page. I can understand about your personal identity and being guarded. I tend to keep my web life fairly separate and personal. For example, my Facebook page privacy settings are for friends only. I don't sign into other websites using my Facebook login. All that is kept pretty segmented.

Certainly you don't want to annoy your friends, and I thought about it for a bit, and finally ended up sending the request to almost all of my friends. It's not like I do this on a regular basis, and my Facebook page, for the most part is about my family life and all that. I never talk about work, and have no "friends" from the workplace.

On the other hand, I'm pretty careful about who my facebook friends are, and am fairly confident that a single request over the years isn't too much of a big deal. Nor will I be bothered if they don't respond by "liking" the page.

Then, too, there may be a few more like me, here on P&S who will go over and friend, or like the page. I'm always happy to help promote a fellow puppetry aficianado in their endeavors.

I can't tell for sure but I think  you have have a regular account for Patsy and not just a page.  Where you logged in as yourself on FaceBook and then create a Page?  For pages you don't normally have to request friendship you just follow them.  You don't want them to have to friend you in order to see the content. I am pretty open that the FB Puppets and Stuff is connected to me but you wouldn't have to let folks now. You just have to make sure that you keep track of who you are posting as but FB is pretty good about listing that at the top of the page when first hit it and offering to switch you.  Also pay note the icon next to the add comment box.  There have been a couple post I've made on the page as myself when I meant to post as the page.
