How do I attach ping pong ball eyes? Posted by Shoeshine on Aug 09, 2012
I just used them for the first time, and I'm hoping there's a better solution than what I did. I glued foam inside the half ball then glued the foam to the puppet. But you can see the edges and the glue slightly discolored some of the ping pong ball, so I'm not happy with it.

Black doll eyes through the ball looks darn good though.

I don't know if this is correct but, I use ping pong size styrofoam balls cut in half and use that to fill the inside of the ping pong ball. For me it gave a nice flat surface to glue the eye to the puppet. I hope that helps.
Steve.

I have used anything from a hot glue gun to contact cement for ping pong ball eyes and never seemed to have a problem with keeping them on... even after using them for a while.

Sincerely,

I used excess foam. Glued it inside the eye to fill it, then glue the eye to the face. I wouldnt use hot glue putting the foam in the eye though, it can melt the ball.

You can epoxy a nylon bolt onto the ping pong ball so you can screw the eye in enough that the edges don't show.

I just use a circle of foam the same size as the ping pong ball and using very little glue, attach it inside the ball as soon as I got glue out of the gun so it wouldn't be to hot.. For one I just attached the foam to his head so I could change out his eyes easily. It works because he is  grumpy and calm so he does do harsh movements.

Got some great ideas from you guys, thanks. The loss of color on part of the eye was probably from the hot glue. The nylon bolt idea might be a good one for me, eyes and noses don't always like to stay on the puppet at highway speeds.
