Finding patterns for you puppet cloths. Posted by Shawn on Aug 16, 2012
Someone over at PuppetHub had ask a while back if anyone had a pattern for a suite jacket for a puppet. I had put in my two cents then forgot about it. Today  David Syrotiak added an excellent suggestion to google for "Suit Jacket Pattern" then click on then view the image listings and see the images of patterns.  There are a few of them.  He then suggested downloading the images and scaling them to fit your puppet.

Most are smaller images since they are used for reference but they would still scale up ok to get a decent pattern off of. Here is just one good example of a page that has some images of the pattern on it that could be used. http://www.threadsmagazine.com/item/4366/bag-your-jacket-lining The simple "pattern" is about half way down the page and really it is just an illustration of how you can create a pattern for lining your coat. Making a lining pattern

You may wonder how to figure out the size you need. Have a look at the center image for the Back Lining. If you measure your puppet shoulders it should translate to the upper left and right measurement of that pattern right where the arms get inserted. maybe just a bit shy of that to account for the added sleeve once it is in. Then look at the measurement from the top of the shoulders down to the bottom of the puppet or where you want the jacket to end. That translates into the height of your pattern.

I choose this page/pattern because it really is the simplest of coats. It is not very fitted which as a rule you would want.  You could always tailor it in to suite your needs. Also this basic shape is the same as a shirt. Want a vest? leave of the sleeves and change the shape at the bottom of the Front Lining of the pattern.

Happy sewing!
