3d printing Posted by andycomic on Aug 18, 2012
Wondered if anyone used 3d printing to make puppet, in particular marionette, parts? Someone pointed out a startup company that was making one for 300USD, shipping next march which is a big reduction from the usual $1500USD price tag for these. Would really change the game if they come down in price a lot.

I've never done it simply because of cost but at $300 it is tempting to give it a test run.   Would love to know your source on this if you are willing to share.

Here is the website: http://www.makible.com/products/makibox-a6-1

I met them at the HK maker fair recently. Production begins in Sept but being sold in march 2013, have no idea how good it will be but they are really passionate about being the cheapest and hassle free 3d printer in the world.

printrbot has some pretty good prices also. It does seem that for the $300 price range that perhaps makitbox is  better buy. That is just from my inexperienced look at things.   If I understand the specs right the makitbox gives you a slightly larger build and it is not limited to just PLA for it's medium.  Now who knows how important those factors are. Still I am intrigued by both these products.

I straight-up love 3d printing/additive manufacture so I would be very keen to hear of any endeavours involving using one in puppet construction. They really changed the game with stop motion, so I'd love to see components of puppets (ears, eyes, noses etc) produced through these processes. Keep us up to date!
