I got my 3d printer and am having fun. I got an update about the cheap 300USD one and they are still on track for next march. They are not making it in China which is great news and they were worried about the differing quality from batch to batch. There are a few marionette and puppet items readd made, see one here: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1933 , once you have the design you can scale it up and down. To get a machine though , it requires some knowledge of computers and mechanical things. I got someone to give me a 3 hour lesson which sorted my out.

That Robomarionette is sweeeet!  Are yo going to build one of those?  Talk about cutting down on the work needed to build a puppet.  I always loved making the heads and costuming marrionetts but got a bit bored with the rest of the process. Would have loved this when I was still in full puppet building mode.

I have been printing stuff all week. First thing you realise it that its really SLOW. I small part can take an hour. But of course its perfect. Makerbot JUST released their version 2 of the replicator and it really really sweet : The MakerBot Replicator 2 Desktop 3D Printer - Announcement ,  the precision is much better than mine looks but at 4 times the price, I would expect it to be. I'll print out a robo marionette leg this week and post it here so you see how that turns out.
