Hi from cvermont Posted by cvermont on Aug 19, 2012
At a library 30 years ago I bought Edith Flack Ackley's book "Marionettes" 1929. The patterns were missing, so the book went unused. In April last I picked it up again. I don't seem to mind that there are no patterns now! Since April I have made 8 humanoid marionettes and 6 or 7 types of sea creatures to go with my mermaid. I'm obsessed, spending so much time  making them I don't have time to get good at manipulation.  I've been making the feet and hands out of wire and low melting point wax, then covering them with paper pulp. lately I tried wrapping the hands with florist tape instead of pulp, then I use the color and sealer layers to make a hard surface. It works well.

Edith Flack Ackley's book "Marionettes" was the first book I ever purchased! At the time it had the patterns but I have no idea where they have gone now.   I think it is a great book! Wish it was still in print.

Welcome to PandS BTW!
