No don't paint the hands! I love that fabric! It really adds interest I think.
I guess if you are going for a particular look you'll have to but they are really cool looking hands.
Do you know what the plastic electrical parts are called in this photo?
They are perfect for making wired hands I think.

In Dutch they are called "Kroonsteentjes" freely translated; Krownstones. But....
In English you would call them "Screw terminal" specific: luster/lustre terminals. Luckely there is a wikipedia page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Screw_terminal
You often can buy them in strings of 10 / 12 or even more....

Now, how simple can it be....Just the cardboard package inserts of some shoes...and some pieces of old plywood...
...make perfect shoes for Little Steve. Thanks to creative friend Lena Selway, who came up with the idea, Little Steve has got real boots for walking. Just some black paint...
...and I guess that's all.......I will do.
Now the body is complete......and after many suggestions, I decided to leave the hands as they are, and will not paint them.
Just took a look at Little Steve, after two weeks of growing a beard, It was a shock...pictures soon.

Such great ideas! The shoes are perfect!

Cool shoes. I want to also point out that the inserts are simply made of paper mulch (paper mache') pushed into a mold. Something to think about if someone wanted to make their own. The puppet master I learned from always made her shoes by sculpting the shape out of clay then covering in paper mache'. Sometimes they would just be painted but other times would then be covered in fabric.

I thought the same Shawn. But the factory ones are made in a mesh mold I think, so it gets that smooth side and a lumpy side. Egg cartons are the same. I am not sure if they are 'squished' to get excess water out of them, but my paper making efforts show there is a lot of water to get rid of. I also found that Egg carton/tray fiber is very course, similar or even moreso than cardboard. I tried molding objects with it, but found shrinkage and distortion a little annoying, the pulp took ages to really dry out to a solid state, and also I find that paper mache with layerd paper and glue turns out stronger due to the glue and the paper generally being compressed more in the making of it. So, with fewer layers you get an almost wooden object-quite tough, quicker, and less fuss. However, Carlos, it's a very cool idea using the shoe inserts. I haven't actually seen any though. I've seen wine bottle protectors...By the way, I love the wire/cable joiner hand idea.

About the shoes; the inserts would have been thrown away...and Little Steve is all about using as much reclaimed material as possible, so this solution was easy...
As for his clothes.....
Some kids jeans saved from getting in the bin, by a friend....and a shirt donated by a secondhand shop in Tomar...with some, cutting and sewing, Little Steve is dressed.
Back to his head:
It took so many wool.... that the sweater my wife is knitting... is gonna miss some sleeves. After two weeks of growing a beard, I'll gues it's time for a barbershop visit.
So still got to sort out his eyes, connect his head to the body, make him a guitar and than "string him up"
