As part of my work for the School of Puppetry site I'm redoing my sock puppet tutorial/pattern. It will be completely new and far more in-depth than the old (crappy) one.

The instructions are fairly simple, so I thought to make it better value I'd also include info on attaching arms, and a few costume/accessory patterns. So my question to you guys is: what kinds of costumes would you most like to see?

My thought is maybe a shirt or vest, and perhaps a skirt. Accessories might include a hat. I'd like to have both male and female options covered...

Well the princess with a crown is a no brainer. She is very cute. Perhaps a prince would be a nice compliment to here.

Shirt maybe... vest for sure. How about a tutu.  I realize that would not be that hard really but hey... well you know.  Also  a sash could actually work for either a prince or even a beauty queen.  Cowboy or top hat.... the top hat would be the simplest.

Not sure about doing the princess - it was a custom order a few years ago. I might do something similar though.

I like the idea of a tutu. Maybe I could do a Swan Lake style ballerina or something.

A cowboy could be cute. That would take care of the vest, and then I could do a sheriff's badge and the cowboy hat. Maybe a mini lasso?

...Just had a thought. I could pick two or three themes and then do costumes for both genders. That would ensure that there's some diversity without being too all over the place.

Of course, these are done with socks that are purple, pink or blue, so maybe I need to worry about colour scheme too.

Don't think you should count on color schemes. What if folks can't get those colors.

What if you did a sock puppet with the same concept as build a bear or what nots............. build a sock puppet or knock knock sock puppets. A kit per say with everything needed to build a sock puppet including a outfit ? I did a sock puppet kit but never promoted them, wasn't happy with the finished product so I just gave them away to family and friends.

Great point - at the same time, I want it to look good so people will actually buy the pattern. A crazy colour scheme might put people off.

Because a kit is far more money than I can spend (materials-wise); requires a lot more work; isn't a downloadable pattern; and I'd still need to come up with a few costumes/accessories to add in.

I've also discovered over the years that my skill/marketing is best left for patterns rather than videos or kits. (At least when it comes to non-shadow puppets)

I am literally broke right now so downloads are the only way forward.
