I love it, what type of foam are you using?
Re: HellBoy Posted by cristina1984 on Aug 29, 2012
well... I don't know. I never purchase material from the web or similar. I bought it under the name of foam or even "gomaespuma", in a little shop which sells sofas, carpers and paintig for home.

Ok, thanks
Re: HellBoy Posted by tbonepearson on Aug 29, 2012
What do you use to cut it? Just scissors?
Re: HellBoy Posted by cristina1984 on Aug 29, 2012
Yes, it is made with a foam of 2 cm wide, and it is all cut with scissors. I don't have any professional tool..

tboneperason, the foam that critina1984 is using looks to be just the normal poly foam that you find in hobby and craft stores that is used to stuff your own pillows.  It is pretty standard stuff and like cristina1984 I actually get mine from a company that sells foam to people who do upholstering work.

Here is a tip for those who may be having trouble finding foam in thier area and don't want to purchase over the internet.  Check with your local community college and see if they offer an upholstering class. Perhaps even check your local hobby store.  I know when I was in my 20's I took a night class at a community college to learn how to upholster. Even if you don't take the class you could get the name of the teacher and contact them to see where they get their supplies.  I bet they get them in town some place.   Not only can you get foam from such places they often have some cool fabrics and or batting (can be used over your foam to soften or pad out areas of a puppet).

I  just finished a head for a body character project. A large majority of the time I grabbed the scissors to cut my foam pieces.  You can also use a serrated carving knife manual or electric.  I even used the rotary cutter on a few pieces because I had a long straight cut.  Straight edge razors are also a great choice. No matter what you use plan on it dulling the edge really fast.   That is why I try to not use my really good fabric scissors on foam.

Thanks for all the great info!
Re: HellBoy Posted by Shawn on Aug 29, 2012
BTW: 2cm is just a bit over 1/2 inch which is what I use quite often and is also a pretty common thickness for foam in the US. In all reality what is sold for 1/2 inches in the states most likely closer to actually being 2cm.   It is kind of like buying a 2x4 at the hardware store. It really isn't 2" by 4".  What ever happened to truth in advertising.
