How do I make a round doll head? Posted by jperrier on Aug 30, 2012
I want to make a baby doll puppet with the blanket behind it for my daughter. I have one that is 30 years old, it is made of nylon, there is a hair roller in the head and you can manipulate the head and arms. I want to use some soft fleece I have to make the head. How do I make a round head, can someone direct me to a free pattern or draw me a simple sketch to give me an idea. Here is a picture of what I want to make.

Looking at the pic again it appears there may be a seam around the edge the front of the face, could there be a back , front, and gusset?

One word... "Wedge". http://puppetsandstuff.com/community/index.php?action=gallery&g2_itemId=8610
Actually the shape of the head above looks like it may not be a perfect round but the pattern I linked to can be played with to give you different shapes. The only draw back is that you end up with quite a few seams when you use the wedge method. You could though go with what you where beginning to think was going on. Cut a front and a back piece the shape you want your head. Then use the wedge pattern shape on the sides to create a gusset of sorts. Stuffing it with poly fill would kind of round out the front and back of the face for you I think if you where using a stretch fabric.

Looks a lot like a cabbage patch doll or as the original creator Xavier Roberts called little people
