Heads in video shots- tips to get rid of them Posted by pagestep007 on Sep 03, 2012
Hi all,
I hope this is the right section for this.
One unspoken battle every video/TV/movie puppeteer has, is keeping your head out of shot. That 10% safe zone is actually a 10% danger zone, and even the best puppeteers get caught out. Here are a few ways in post production you can rescue those shots.
I expect as software changes this will outdate fairly quickly, but the theory is still there, and we can update the software options as they change in the future.
I have included some free software alternatives for those on zero budget. Some for windows and some that are cross platform and will work for Mac and linux.
You can skip to:
3:06 scaling general
3:42 scaling with Avidmux (Multiplatform)
5:36 scaling with Wax 2.0 (Windows)
8:01 patches general
12:12 patches with WAX 2.0
12:57 animated masks general
16:17 animated masks in WAX 2.0 (Windows)
21:06 animated masking in GIMP (Multiplatform)

Very interesting. Only erased heads in still shots previously, nice to see how to do it in video shots too. Thanks for sharing your expertise.

You are welcome Snail. It's a bit like the fire department. You hope you won't ever need them, but if you do... they come in VERY handy.
