I am not sure if it has been done or not. But what if there was a puppet band? Primarily the singers would be different puppet characters but with a human guitarist and keyboardist in the band. I know of Big Nazo who does big puppets and blues music and there is a Folk Group from Israel with puppets. I was thinking almost like a hybrid of The Electric Mayhem meets Rocka-Fire Explosion/Chuck E Cheese Band with a karaoke song and character quality.

Actually, I think the Israeli group you might be thinking of is "Red Band" which is a puppet rock band very similar to what you're envisioning - http://puppetvision.info/2012/03/red-band-israels-raunchy-puppet-rockers.html
There have been other people who have done variations on this, but Red Band has probably been the most successful.

I forget his name but there is a member here who did a heavy metal puppet band too! I remember him through Myspace but haven't seen from him in a long time.

A puppet band has been an idea I've been dabbling with for a while now - namely because I'm a crap performer and have realised film is the only real option I have to give my crew life. Sadly I'm suffering both puppet and music block at the moment though I have finalised the designs for some of the instruments. I say go for it and I hope you have more success than me!

Andrew... loved the version of "Crazy" they did that you have embedded in the article on your blog. The arrangement on it was really nice. Cool stuff!
I think the idea of a puppet band is well worth perusing. I can see though that if you where going to perform live gigs you might want to have "real" musicians and then just have the singers as puppets. Then again you might be able to find some musicians who really don't want to be on stage and they could be offstage or in the background and the puppet "performs" for them.
