Hi Guys! I'm James (aka Lokiy2j) Posted by lokiy2j on Sep 27, 2012
Hi!

So a little bit about me, in June this year my wife left me, she took our daughter and is now making me fight to see her. she has moved her in with another man and it's all very distressing.

The one thing that got me through all of this was Jim Henson's Muppets, having always been a fan they can cheer me up still at 29 years old, the same way they did when I was 9 years old.

So having not seen my daughter for 2 months I tried to think of a way I could let her know I still cared, still do the silly crazy things we used to do together, but without actually being there, all the while going through the long and boring court process.

This bought me not just here, but to the end result which was rather than use the suggested method by the court which was to write her a letter a week (she's 6 there is only so much you can say in a letter) I chose to make a puppet and put on a show for her, with it being available on youtube for her to see should her mother allow it.

well it's 3 months down the road, I've stalked the forums here and spent a bit of time collating everything i needed, and finally my first show went on air today.

so I'd like to say hello! thank you to Puppets & Stuff and please feel free to watch, share & comment on my videos as you see fit...

The Loki Show Episode 1

thanks.

James.

Cheers Booster, it's tough but making the puppets and doing the show has been great fun and I'm pleased to say the show was a hit! at least with my daughter and gave a few of my friends a laugh.

I plan to shoot show number 2 next week and keep it rolling with new characters coming in when I can make them. the biggest issue I am having is sourcing the right type of foam for the mouths & heads, I used card for the mouth of my first puppet and a seat cushion for his head! for my second puppet I stuck thinner foam sheets together to make a semi decent foam mouth and head, but still it's not quite right. It seems in the UK there aren't many retailers that sell the right foam for the job!

Here are a couple past threads on where to find foam in the UK.  Might be of help to you.

Not all of those are specific to foam itself but post about where to find things in the UK for puppet making.

You might also keep an eye on http://www.mermibridg.co.uk/  it is the site of one of our members.  She is in the UK and sells puppet and doll supplies.
