New Sewing Machine added to family Posted by Out of the Box Puppets on Sep 30, 2012
I just wanted to share my review of our newest sewing machine.  A Juki tl-98q. http://www.jukihome.com/products/quilt_tl98q.html

Yu can read mire about it at the link above, but basically it is a one needle, straight stitch machine.

Pros:
Speed, speed and more speed.  Love the speed. 1500 stitches per minute.  I'm not sure what most machine do, but the main one I have been using for the past two years was 450 pm.  When we purchased it i thought ot was fast, but quickly out grew the speed, but didn't realized other mashines mit be faster other than industrial machines.

A close second is the automatic thread cutting feature.  Our previous Brother also had that feature which broke after 1 year and have not had a chance to have it relaired, so I'm just relishing haveing this feature back.  Not only is there a button on the machine to push, but the peddle has a separate peddle for cutting the thread.

Third it has a knee lift.  Just starting using this feature, but saves a lot of time while sewing hands.

More pros to come....

Cons
So far the only thing I have found is the throat of the machine is a little large/wide.  Hard to get puppet shirts, gloves or other small opening on to sew hem.

It is a used machine, so there was a semi automatic needle threader which seems to be broken off, but not a necessary feature.  Our Brother has a wonderful needle threader so the Juki threader can't compare.

I've only been sewing on it for a week now, but will add more as discovered.  I get giddy just thinking about sewing on it.  Super speed!

Never  used a machine with a thread cutter.  Sounds like a wonderful little tool! Congrats on your new machine!

Wow, I would love to have that speed!  At one time my mom let me use her industrial machine and an industrial serger.  I almost wish I'd never used them because now I know what I'm missing.  Those machines are gone and I really wish I had them now.

Congrats for you!!!!

I can see how a thread cutter would make things go faster and an automatic needle threader sounds wonderful as my old eyes are having trouble threading needles. I like that extended area to the left of the needle that would be good on flat quilting, but more often I would need the skinny base for sewing in the little hems and arm holes. Glad it is working so well for you.

Yes, i am very happy with it.  Have greatly increased my production rate.  We sell blacklight gloves that are made from a very fluffy, double sided fleece. I used to dread sewing them because for some reason the faric seemed to slow down out other machines, but with the new machine i can zip through them.
