amount of fabric Posted by Theatrophobia on Oct 20, 2012
i'm looking at making a "melting montser" puppet. I want it to have one live hand glove like the borsa puppet( not buying the pattern yet, going to try it without a pattern). and was wondering how much fabric yardage to get for the body and arm. i'm basically doing the melonhead skull for the head.

The puppets are brother and sister. Ggel E. Tin is shades of blue or green. and Noel Politan is neopolitan ice cream. the bump on thier head i'm planning to attach the pinhead skull to the melon head to give it character! here is my ideas:

Kind of depends on the width of your fabric.  Furs and come in wider widths so often take a little less yardage. That being said I normally buy a yard fabric.  Since you want to make the arm also add a 1/2 yard and get a yard and one half. Should be enough.

You should look into useing three tone furs. http://www.distinctivefabric.com/category.php?cat=LONGFUR. I agree with Shawn, 1 to 1 1/2 yds.

im not thinking fur for these monsters just because of the melting layers... i think im going to stick with fleece for these monsters... i'm also not ready to start playing with fur yet!  ;)lol

I did a patchwork jacket similar to your layers once,it was harder than I thought it would be. I recommend adding the layers to the flat fabric before you cut out the shape as it may change shape after the layers are added. I was sewing all around but in your melting plan you could leave the bottom end open and just sew the tops, starting at the bottom row working upward.

what i was planning.... i saw a picture of a puppet with this type of technique.... not recreating the same exact puppet... but taking the idea and tweaking it....    should look good... i'm working on the Ggel now... he's the non-icecream one... going with shades of blue! will post pic later

Oh...that's what you were talking about.  I just couldn't picture it.  I really like.  Looking wonderful, can't wait to see more.

Looks interesting, should have good movement with the layers loose. You are a fast worker.
