Monster fur? Posted by Louise on Oct 21, 2012
I'm starting a new puppet and am in disparate need of (preferably inexpensive) monster fur, specifically white and brown. I know my local fabric store doesn't have any, considering I practically live there haha. Does anybody have an online retailer for monster fur?

I don't have the fur sites in my bookmarks on this computer but know there have been sites posted in past. I am sure someone well be along to share them.

That being said they may still be a bit expensive for you.  May I suggest you take a run to the thrift stores and see what you can find. They may not have fabric but they most likely have stuffed animals.   You might be able to salvage the fur from them to use. Brown and white are pretty common colors so should be easy to find.  Also check the costume section of stores like Walmart or Target. Especially after Halloween all those kids costumes are going to be on sale.   In fact even your fabric store is going to have sales on things like fur after Halloween.

I made a green monster out of an old coat from Goodwill once.  I used to hook rugs with yarn, you could use yarn instead of fur if you have that on hand.

This is really nice.  Everything we have purchased from them has been excellent.http://www.distinctivefabric.com/fabric.php?product=EXTRALONGFUR1

Mendel's in San Francisco does online ordering, very reliable people and generally has a large inventory.  You can try here; http://www.mendels.com/fur2.shtml   for longer furs.

I agree with Julie, Distinctive Fabric has a great selection as well as Fabric Empire, never had a problem with either of them....
