Close Body Whole Puppet Posted by Desipio on Oct 25, 2012
Hello!

It's been a while since I've been on! I have a new project that I'm trying to get to grips of the best methods to use. I'm thinking of using foam, felt and fur.

It's for a Lion Puppet. That needs to be a whole bodied puppet. (Lion on hind legs) I'm wanting to build it similar to 'Pickled Images' Wolf character. So his feet will be attached to mine. My right arm will be its arm, my left to manipulate head. Then the left arm of the puppet will be fake. Does that make sense?

Has anyone else built something similar? And what issues did you encounter? Along with what materials did you use?

Opps! I've posted this in 'bazil bazaar' section... Administration can you move this please?

Ran across a puppeteer named Heidi Pendergast who did a puppet similar to this that she called Magpie. She had some photos at her website that I think she called "Gypsy Twig".

She used a sock puppet for the neck and head. A PVC skeleton was connected at her waist by a metal plate. The legs were attached to her feet and the whole body was covered and stuffed. The right arm was fake and the left arm was a stick, covered and stuffed.

I emailed her a few times to get a clarification on some points, but have lost touch. The website had been listed on Puppeteers Unite, but I don't see it there the last time i visited.

I'm currently planning on building one. Bought some swimming "noodles" that are tubes stuffed with micro pellets, to use as legs.

Hope this helps.

Went to see if I could find Heidi and googled gypsy twig.
Found her site with her current project, a mobile puppet theater. There were also the photos of Magpie found under "Meet Magpie". She also listed her email address. Check it out.

She shows a simple PVC piping as the skeleton.

Cheers for the heads up!

Are you left handed or right?  If right handed we found it best to have your strong hand in the head and the arm hand in the other.
