Specifically sweets are these: panellets , eaten with sweet potato cooked with sugar and cinnamon, Muscat and roasted chestnuts.
From that came the legend of the chestnut seller, who sells chestnuts with her cat Marrameu. . the song is something like this:
When it comes time to eat chestnuts
the chestnut, the chestnut,
Chestnut Mountain sold
in the city square
shirt comes small
makes the skirt bell
shoes make Cloc, Cloc
and dancing always turns well.
note: panellets are great! Let me know if you want to taste them and I'll give you the recipe! they're so easy to cook.

Yes I think you can get chestnuts in the US. In fact there is a Christmas song "Chestnuts Roasting Over an Open Fire" that is popular. Not sure if they are grown here though. Might have to look in a specialty store for them.

They are usually cooked directly on the fire with a pan plenty of holes.

I like the black. I think silver might blend in. What are your plans for her cloths?
I would love the recipe. I'll have to check where we can purchase the nuts.
