Re: A Puppet Series Posted by BoozeBandPuppets on Dec 10, 2012
Thanks pagestep007! It spurred us on to finish another episode this weekend, at last Episode four!
'Some paperwork suggests the bands weight maybe an issue, there's a special call from Canada and Martin and Steve learn wishes should really cost more than a pound.'
For everyone who liked the accents, there is a particularly fun 'Micheal Caine' vibe to one of the characters this time!!

BoozBandPuppets, I look really sweet with pom poms . Seriously you are coming along very well, very quickly. You definitely had me and my daughter laughing. The only suggestion I could make on episode 4 (well, two suggestions actually)are:
1. The audio levels. You can get a rough idea of how they are sounding, by first normalizing the clip´s audio, so the peaks are as loud as they can be without distorting, then look at the waveforms and they should look roughly the same sort of shape or size/amplitude/volume, from clip to clip, in your timeline(unless they are intentionally supposed to be varied). Then if there is a clip that is looking a bit low, amplify it, preferably with a compressor so that the peaks will not distort, or lower the audio if some of them are too loud. In the end though, play it through and get it so you are not wanting to turn the volume up or down on your speakers to compensate for variations in volumes.
And suggestion 2. Make sure you have your masters safe, and only ever use copies for when you start airing them on TV. Your local station will be a good place to start. Never underestimate a local TV station. They are always looking for locally made content, especially if it is free, or cheap. They may only have a few viewers, but they tend to be very forgiving, so you can make your starting-out mistakes safely, and you will get great experience in the whole process of taking your programs to future Stations... also as you have already found out... youtube is a great place too. A word of warning, not that many puppeteers make a living out of TV, so you might have to keep on with your day job, but it is a lot of fun.

As always, thank you pagestep007. Really nice to hear you and your daughter liked them. It would have been so easy to be all swearing and course with them for shock/humor effect, (I do like avenue Q though!) the thing I really loved about the Muppets was it was funny for everyone, and that's what we wanted to try and do. Plus, even though I'm 36 I still feel I wouldn't have been able to show it to my Mum if it was all F's and stuff! haha I just made a massive assumption that your daughter was quite young then, apologies if she isn't!!! Back to brass tacks.. Thanks for the suggestions, my bro is the sound guy on this project, I shall insist that he reads this and makes the relevant alterations to his output. (gotta keep the workers in their place lol)
You say about not giving up the day job, in fact we only really do this for the love of it, it's such great fun that I think trying to do it for a living may take the simple joy out of the process. It's great just to share it with people who like it for what it is - not how much money they can make from you!

I really appreciate the clean language. You don't have to be vulgar to make adults laugh. I tell my sons not to watch movies that they would be ashamed to have me beside them.

BBP, I agree with Snail. It is refreshing to see good clean humor that everyone can watch. That has a lot to do with The Muppet's success. It is harder, but better. My daughter is 17.
