First puppet (not yet finished) Posted by roscolabri on Nov 17, 2012
Hey all, first post here as I've mainly been peeking at posts here and there with great interest!

Anyways, I've started my first puppet pretty much following youtube tutorials. I'm already planning on making a larger one next time out of foam as my hand only just fits inside the head and I want everything to be a bit more rigid, but hey-ho, it's all a learning experience isn't it?

He isn't finished yet, just need to add a few more small details as well as pinning the arms on the poor guy. But thought I'd just post him as he is now.

He's supposed to be a tortoise (shell will be made...or attempted) but looks more like a snake at the moment. PArt of that I Think is because I stupidly placed the eyes facing inwards instead of what I originally planned which was outwards. Sheesh!

So to sum it up, I'm already having lots of fun and really enjoy reading all the tips and tid-bits on this forum. Top place

Looks good, we had a turtle puppet and we loved to have him go down in his shell and then peek out,he was a favorite. He had a fishing hat on his head, he was always sleepy and the children would love to yell to wake him up. I think your eyes are good, looking toward the audience, the little line of fabric on the bottom edge of the eyes looks good for a turtle, I had never thought of doing that.

You are doing a really good job.

I agree your first puppet is special.  Keep it and you will be so amazed at what you can learn in a year if you keep building.
