Cosmic Pup - My Cardboard Puppet Show Posted by CosmicPup on Dec 19, 2012
Hello there. I really like the idea of going the puppet direction with my creative ideas. I recently made a puppet show/animation. More Info -  http://www.cosmicpup.com/episodes/cosmic-pup/cosmic-pup-1/

I've started by making cardboard puppets, but imagine I will experiment a lot with different puppet making techniques as I go. So this site looks like a good place to keep coming back to for inspiration and guidence along the way.

Nice to meet you all Stephen. Youtube link -

Ahh now is all clear! I see they are a bit like the pop sickle puppets kids sometime make. Very neat! I really do like the style of this. Production value is very professional.

I checked out your art site also... nice stuff! Wish I could get a closer look at the landscapes you did mainly with a toothbrush. Again you have intrigued me.

Cheers! What kick-started this project was seeing comedian Simon Munnery's Fylm-Makker show at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. I've set up a similar way of working to the one he utilised with the rostrum etc.

Thanks for looking at the art site! I'm not sure where it is going at the moment. If you right-click, view image on the landscapes you can see them a bit bigger. They were 95% tooth brush creations. Tiny bit of under-painting. Some masking. I don't have any extreme close-up photos.

I'll keep popping back to this site. It's right up me street. I intend to make some 3d puppets in the future. Gonna have another browse around now

Fantastic, love the production quality as mentioned above and the characters are really well thought out! I've subscribed and will be looking forward to more!

Really love the way this looks on screen! The black and white is really stylized and works brilliantly. You obviously have a lovely drawing skill, a very 'graphic design' style feel (right up my street, love it loads!) Will be looking forward to seeing more of these. I find the idea of working with card and paper really appealing now..!

Very cool.  Everytime something new like this shows up I want to try it.  Thanks for showing your set up.

Thanks for the nice comments you lot. Make me feel it was all worthwhile The idea is a kind of an updated version of the stuff I watched on TV as a child. I wanted to create an old-skool look to it. I just figured out a way that would work for me. I wanted to avoid Flash animation, as I spend enough time stuck at a computer screen already. And what's the point of doing what everybody else does anyway.. Decided the puppet route would be much more fun. I'm a jack of all trades really, master of nothing. I used to be part of a comedy trio and write sketches, used to have a design job, studied TV Graphics at Uni many moons ago. All points to a puppet show or two me thinks

I love the art work too! What a novel way to use puppetry. You should do a short video of how you filmed it!

Really nicely done. Some bits reminded me of David Firth.

Hi Lola. Was just admiring your puppets on your recent posts. David Firth, yeah know what you mean. Whenever I do a bad impression of a North-West accent of some kind it comes out like Salad Fingers.
