Re: PandS 2.0 Posted by Shawn on Jan 31, 2013
Ahhhh... ok now I get it. Either I am having dajavu or a senior moment because the moment I switched back to the older layout I got it! I kind of streamlined the new look too much! The old one had the dropdown under the username with New Post, New Replies and Recent Post that took you to the full page version of each. On those if you clicked on the subject you where taken to the top of the thread but if you clicked on the little New icon you went direct to the newest post you had not read. I always used the icon which is essentially what clicking on the subject in the new layout does now.  I think what I'll do in the new layout is have the list show up but then have a line and then the old links to the full version. That should give folks the option.  I may even re-integrate the New icon into the list that shows in the drop down. I'll play with that today.

No I have not gone back to the new version, but I can, I have the day off today.  Yes it was the whole page where it went to the top in old and the bottom in the new one.  Funny today I found myself missing the avatar at the bottom to pop back to the top today. I was wishing the header stayed fixed when you scroll down so that you could go back to the header links without scrolling all the way back up in the old version. We are so lazy.  I appreciate all your effort to make things better Shawn.

I went back to new 2.0. and it looks a little different now.  The New button now has a wider box that I can read, thank you.  I had an interesting thing happen.  I wanted to go to New Replies which is way at the bottom of that box, but one post with eBay pictures was layered on top of the bottom of the box and I could not get to the link, is there anyway those three links at the bottom could be at the top instead?

Hmmm.... I could move them to the top of the list then have the post under them. What concerns me though is that the dang Ebay widget overlays the site content.  Not something that would happen that often but it is still a bit irritating. I kind of noticed it the other day but have not taken the time to fix it. Pretty sure some of the others embeds may do the same thing.

I like the links at the top.  When I first come to the website and click the New button the first time now it makes that circle do-dad for a long time.  But if I go to another tab and hit New from there it pops up quick. It is much more usable now.

I'm thinking this has to do with the new ISO update on my IPad, but everything went back to being soooo tiny. When I expand the view the top and bottom bars crowd over top the other bars below.  The bar at the bottom with the logo covers up the bottom post. Seem to work fine when i turn the ipad horizontal, but doesn't like vertical.

Also, not all the topic seem to be showing up in the 'New 3163/194' box. Sometimes I have to go back to the home page to get a topic, such as this topic.

I'm making due, just thought you'd like to know.

Oh, I have a small note: sometimes when I am not completely scrolled all the way down, I can't press the 'post' button. I realise this is because of your lovely bottom toolbar that overlaps ... but then, I'm smart enough to realise that just because it's transparent doesn't mean something isn't there
Re: PandS 2.0 Posted by Shawn on Feb 06, 2013
I am actually working on a streamlined layout out for iPads and mobile. Like you said horizontal is sometimes and that is how I always tested this layout because that is how I view using my iPad but the other day I was with someone and was using theirs and realized they prefer to use it vertically.

New 3163/194... Wow that is a lot of new post to read.  I may need to look into coding specific to handle things when a user has not logged in for a long time and then comes to the site. Again it is how the site is used by individuals which is why it is so important I get feed back from folks.  I visit at least once a day if not more so my new post count is never very high. The little drop box is more then enough to display them.

In regards to the circle graphic you see, that is going to happen when the site is busy. The best thing to do is hit another page or refresh the current one if it last too long. It basically means that you are having to wait in line at the server till it can get to you and often a refresh puts you at the front of the line so to speak. If only real life was like that.

Yes I've noticed that myself Na. I'm not sure what to do about that, unless I simply give the bottom bar color again.  While I personally love the logo guy at the bottom of the page I am beginning to feel I need to move him back to the top of the page.

P.S.  Julie... what happens if you use the actual New Post link that shows up after you click on the New button?  Does that display the larger number of new post for you ok? It should show you the list of new post 25 at a time on a page with a page navigation top and bottom of the list.
Re: PandS 2.0 Posted by Na on Feb 07, 2013
I do like the bottom bar... and I don't mind having to scroll a bit, but I wonder if it will confuse people who are not so net-savvy. Why not just extend the black from the "who's online" bit so it goes all the way across the screen to the logo?

(Wait, you had it that way before, no? Did I complain about it?  )
