he'll have sun glasses on (hopefully) so the misalignment won't notice too much but as I'd never cut my head pieces and sewn different colours in to them it was a bit nerve wracking! yes he's actually part peacock (his dad was a peacock his mum was a bit lose..tho we won't tell the kids that) and yes the misalignment annoyed me but im happy overall.
I'm thinking I might cheat with the rabbit...and just put rabbit ears on the dog puppet I have made...the one who wore a red nose int he christmas episode....might be a running joke that he dresses as other animals...

It is really easy for the seam to get off even when pinning as some fabrics stretch or give. If you are unhappy with it can you go back in and undo the seam and resew it, I do that many times. A good test would be to pin it from the underside and see if that new seam would fix what you don't like. With parts that stick up like the rooster comb or the rabbit ears, they can flop over and not stand up unless you support the base where they are attached. I sew pipe cleaners inside the edges of ears to make them posable and leave extra pipe cleaner at the bottom so I can bend it and support it inside the head if I want it to stand up. I like your idea of the dog in rabbit costume, we did that with a fish that dressed as a cat. Ears on a small headband like is used for kids costumes worked then we made a small loop of elastic on the sides of the head to slip the ends into. Would work for a pair of glasses too. We tried to hide the loop behind the ears. That will make that puppet work for many more situations. By the way I like the chicken eyes

cheers snail, I've "feathered" him now, figure the missed seam will lend to the charm of the puppet got a couple more puppets to make and a few "extras" to create for background scenes etc so it's back to the sewing machine I go!

Lokiy2j, by the way, how did the body of your chickn turn out? And you said you feathered him.. you'll have to upload a photo so we can see.. or do we wait til we see him in your next episode?
Re: Chicken puppet...need help! Posted by lokiy2j on Jan 25, 2013
body wise he's pretty much the same as all my puppets my confidence isn't there yet to do anything more than the standard bodies, i do want to make legs for all my existing puppets. as for his feathering...well he's done and im currently beavering awayon the season plan before 1st feb as that's when filming starts! I'm sure I'll have some promo pics ready well before hand though as his episode isn't for a while and the show will still center on loki & oscar.

Nice job on the adjustment! If I can give a little advice, if you sew something like this again, I would sew the beak section together lining up and sewing the seam where it's goint to meet the white section, and then do the same for the white section, then sew the yellow to the white. That way you don't have to worry about it lining up on the face, you can just make adjustments by tucking in the mouthplate/the seam allowance on the bottom.
Overall, excellent work for adjusting an existing pattern!
