New Project 2 of 2 - Fraggle clone Posted by ArthurS on Jan 10, 2013
I had a customer contact me wanting a Fraggle clone. He has Ausburger's and is non-stop questions and wants to see every step. so I thought I'd share them here.
He wanted it to look pretty much like this: Behind the scenes: Fraggle video
The head is based off of the "Glorified Sock Puppet" pattern. Elongated the snout and rounded the back of the head along with some other minor tweaks.
I added fleece. Usually I do this after adding the mouth plate, but the pattern didn't allow me the room to form the lip. so I did it this way.
I made a Simple 3 piece, round body for him:
He had asked about the stitches so I thought I'd show him the stages:
I usually add the mouthplate and then cover it. But the pattern didn't allow me room to make the lips like normal, so I reversed it this time.
I decided that The ping pong balls are too small. Painting plastic domes.
And here he is as of today:
Neck, arms and legs to come. Hair is being shipped. You know, the worst part about this is I've had the dang theme song stuck in my head since starting the project!!!

Back again!
Made the arms, legs and neck tube:
The Ostrich Trim came sewn to a horrible black bias.
I had to cut strips of the fleece I had used and glue it over the bias
I suppose the one good thing about that is it made it almost impossible to sew and easy to glue in place.
I glued it in strips until reaching the top. Then I took the last yard of trim, cut all the feathers off, glued them into bunches of 5-6 feathers, then glued them in place covering the top and any exposed seams.
Here he is, just the finished head and neck tube.
And here he is all but finished. I ran out of the trim before doing the tail. Off to get more trim.
