Hello from Brazil! Posted by priperca on Jan 23, 2013
Hello everybody!
My name is Priscila (most known as perca on internet boards, DA, etc) and I'm a crafter from São Paulo, Brazil. I have been in love with puppets since I was a child (specially Eureeka's Castle and The Muppets Show - plus a hardcore love for 2 Brazilian puppet shows, TV Colosso and anything Ra Tim Bum). I have been drawing and doing a lot of different crafts (from comics to artdolls) but it was a long lost dream of mine to build my own puppets and perform on silly videos with my friends just for the fun of it.
For the start, I Googled all I could until I got my hands on some great books of the puppeteering arts (like Puppet Planet, Puppet Mania, etc) and I got even more hunger for the knowledge of the structures, skulls, mechanisms and all I could give a try.
In the end I decided to work with the Roly Puppet pattern from Project Puppet and just got my very first puppet done. It's still very simple and sloppy, but it made me realize a lot of things and also made me want to learn more to get the second trial done.
I found this board during my search and lurked for a long while, but as I read the topic, I realized how friendly and awesome the people around here are, and that gave me the courage to introduce myself here and all
I plan on posting some pictures asa I have the puppet done (the first one is not worth sharing, since it was a trial and I followed the pattern more than cared about the character design - in fact almost everything about it was decided while constructing it, and not decided beforehand).
Well... Hi!
I hope I can be of some use around here, I have been finding a lot of neat stuff during this research time I had spent XD
OBS. I apologize in advance for any English mistakes.. I'm not native speaker but I try my best to be clear and objective in my speech XD

Welcome to Puppets and Stuff!glad you decided to join us. We would love to see pictures of your finished puppet. I'm sure you have areas you would like to improve but we won't view it as being sloppy.Perhaps we can be of help! feel free to ask questions.

Thank you everybody for the warm reception, I feel so much better now! Yesterday night I got a foam structure started for my second puppet (that I plan to build a hard eyelid blink mechanism for) and you guys made me more excited to get it done so I can show you. I'll take some pictures of my first one and share asap! Once again, thanks a lot, folks!

Indeed, Welcome! It's great to be on a board with people from so many countries sharing their work. Regarding your English, it's so much better than s many teenage American's English on the internet, I think you have nothing to worry about. Besides it is sure better than my Portuguese.

Glad you decided to join us and start posting! Both your's and andyz (other new member from South America) English is just fine.
Love your work over at Deviantart. Your style should lend itself well to puppets!
Just one question... why the male avatar? When I first was reading your post I thought it was you till I looked at your profile. Is it someone famous I should recognize?

I try my best to not sound weird when typing in English (sometimes I can't help some literal translations that I bet sound funny in English XD), I think that communication has to be done somehow, right?
About my avatar, it's Kurt Russell on The Thing (one of my favorite horror movies). I just re-watched the movie and decided to use him as my avatar here XD Sorry for misleading you about my gender XD
I'm trying hard to get my style across my puppets, but I still need to get a lot of things settle before doing a truly professional one... I'm still figuring out the eye blink mechanism, but I will share my first one so you guys can see what I have so far.
Thank you again for the warm reception, this board is such a nice place to be part of!
