Hello from Maryland! Posted by artfactore on Feb 06, 2013
Hi Everyone!  I am truly a newbie to the puppetry world and look forward to listening and asking questions.  I design and make large and small puppets, but still too shy to perform.  Maybe some day. Have a great day!

Hello, welcome to PnS... I'm also from Maryland as well.

Your avatar is wonderful! Is that one of your puppets? I'd love to see more. The nice thing about performing puppetry is that it's made for shy people. I know that I have the perfect face for performing behind a curtain! Welcome to P&S!

Welcome to PandS!  Looks like for a newbie you have been pretty busy.   I love Dwight the elephant. I really like some of your other work that you have on your site. Very artistic and creative.  Which have you found works better for you, selling on-line or setting up booths at art and craft fairs?

I reminds me of a line of toys from France called Deglingos...

Glad you are here.

Thanks everyone!  I love to create and find new ways to make my creatures come to life.  I mostly do business on etsy.  My website isn't selling as well and I am not sure how to approach craft shows. I've done a couple local ones and done pretty well.  Any suggestions on how to proceed?

Your puppets are unique and original.  Do what you love and it can't be wrong.  Your anntena eyes reminded me of some alien puppets we made like that.  We put a bow tie around the middle of the long eyes for the boy and a big pink bow around the girl's eyes, it helped to keep them up too.  Are they bendable too?

Snail, I was going to ask the same question. How did you make them? I made some antenna a while ago and would like to improve the way of doing it.

you sound a lot like me!  Performing is a bit out of my comfort zone as I am basically shy as well.  Unfortunately, I am also too damaged physically to do the behind-the-curtain/over-the-head work either.   I too try to sell on Etsy but to date, have only got 1 sale there.  I have a craft show coming up that I'm in, but mostly for exposure as I think the puppets I make are the wrong type/price range for craft shows.  So yeah, I'm still looking too!

Sorry for taking so long to respond, I found these gigantic pipe cleaners for the antenna eyes.  I am an art teacher and ordered them for my Middle School art class.  They hold in place well, yet are very flexible.
