New Project - Help Needed Please Posted by Desipio on Feb 08, 2013
Hello Folks!!
Ok so Im not sure if theres a thread similar to this (maybe the admins can help?) or if I've mentioned this before. Its been a project I've wanted to kick start for a while. Finished a commissioned piece and have some time set aside for a personal project... Im wanting to create a puppet similar to this design. Its the only one I've managed to find online.
http://www.craigdenston.com/images/photos/puppets_latex/before_after.htm
The feet would connect via the Stirrups. However I wished for one arm to be just a sleeve so my arm can go in and be the primary used arm. the second will be fake and set in place. The head... Id prefer not to be a rod.. Wanting to actually create a movable mouth. SO its a kind of a mixture between the previous link and if you Google the UK Company - Hodman and Sally, The Flying Buttressess.
Its going to be a interactive pair of characters for outdoor purposes. Any help? Any suggestions on materials or ways you'd approach this project?
Does anyone know what you would call the puppet in the link I have shared above?
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts

Not for sure what the exact terminology is but I have heard walk about puppets or walk around puppets used in the past. We have had members make these puppets using different techniques. The feet are attached to the foot either by a rod or strap and the same with the hands.

For the arm on the puppet that you want your own arm in, you'll more then likely want the entry point at the elbow or wrist of the puppet. This is going to give you the most mobility. If you tried to get your entire arm in the puppets are it would pull the puppet very close into your own body and thus limit you I think. You will want to support the weight of the puppet off your own body. I've seen it done with something as simple as a strap around the neck that had a dog clips on the end that would then connect into the body of the puppet. You want to help hold the weight but still allow for movement independent of your own body.

They are familiar but I can't quite place them... in fact it seems these may have been from one of our members.
Hey do you have these in a larger size? Would be nice to see the detail on the fourth one better.

No unfortunately this was from way back when before I knew about pixel size and saving web links. There is a post some where on puppets and stuff but I couldn't find it.
