sticky foam Posted by Crafty Lady on Feb 09, 2013
I am fairly new at marionettes.  The ones i am making are stuffed with soft foam.  Unfortunately, when i am in the trimming process, the snipits stick to the scissors, my clothes, and everything else except where it is supposed to fall.  Has anyone found a solution for this?                 Thanks,  Crafty Lady

So if I understand right you are cutting up foam into small pieces that you can stuff inside your marionettes?  Static electricity is the culprit when doing something like that often. I guess you could try some static guard although I never tried it. Why not use poly foam fill for stuffing your puppets?  Comes in a package ready to use.

Thanks for your reply,  unfortunately,  I am shaping the [free] sheets of soft foam to the size and shape of the limb.   I then use a single knit covering.
I knew what was causing the problem.  I wondered if a strong magnet, hung in the waste container, might help? Or is that a different kind of grab?

If you are carving sheets of foam into the puppets body parts the bits and pieces of foam are going to get every where. There's not a whole lots you can do about it except maybe keep a portable vacuum near by or some sticky tape or sticky contact paper by to grab the loose pieces.I don't think magnets react to foam.

Billy is right magnets won't help in this case.

Thank you Both,   What i am going to try next is to wipe everything with a 'drier sheet'.   I don't get at this part of marionette making every day.  There are so many sub-jobs to do when you are trying to make a batch of puppets.   I'm such a slow typist, that just the scripts are a huge job.  I'm hoping to give my first show in June.

Get a spray bottle and fill it with water. Every now and then, spray the foam. Works every time.
