Greetings From the Sunshine State Posted by Mr.B on Feb 11, 2013
I've always known message board etiquette was to introduce yourself when you join, so here I am.

I am a theatre teacher who is an amateur at making puppets but have included it in my curriculum. It has been extremely helpful for students who are afraid to be seen on stage. I look forward to all of the helpful info I have been finding on the site.

Greetings Mr. B.

Where in Florida are you located? I'm in Auburndale, half way between Tampa and Orlando.

Cool, and Welcome! We've had a bunch of folks join in lately, which makes this place better and better. I've never been afraid to be seen on stage, but most folks prefer me to stay behind a curtain! Again, glad you joined.

Wow, that's disappointing - we have a Sunshine State here in Australia and I thought it would be another Aussie signed up!

No seriously, welcome! We're a very friendly bunch!

Sorry, not Australia.  Palm Beach County Florida.

Yeah, I work with Middle and High School students, so I get the gambit.  The puppetry started off as a "what if I tried this..." and then I started building them and became addicted to making them.  Right now most of them are very simple in design, but I am starting to add more and more features.  Some have been success and others... well, not so much.

Welcome to PandS!  I think it is cool that you are using puppetry in the classroom. There are a lot of shows out there that use puppetry in one way or another. Even ones like "Billy Elliot" have puppetry in them. It seems to sneak up everywhere. I also think that if the actor is having to think of and manipulate the movements for the puppet that they become more aware of their own movement and how it helps to create a character or tell the story.
