Hello hello! Posted by Layla on Feb 13, 2013
Just thought I'd introduce myself before exploring the rest of the forum! It's so exciting to see such a big online puppet community!

I'm a Wales based illustrator who makes paper based puppets alongside my paintings. Only been seriously making puppets since last summer, am currently in the process of making a range of glove puppets for a Punch and Judy show and shadow rod puppets for a Jabberwocky shadow show!

I'm very amateur still - especially in my workings of marionette puppets so thought I'd join up here to gather new ideas and more professional working methods.

Thank you! And of course - is there somewhere in particular to post images or is it just on posts?

I just found the gallery and have added a few pictures

Welcome to PandS!  I love your work!  You got it right, just post them in the Gallery and then if you want to share one in particular in the Forums then use the small icon of a camera with a plus sign on it when you are posting to bring up a window that lets you browse the images you have uploaded into the Gallery so you can insert them in a post. There is a comment system in the Gallery but folks do not always notice it as much as the post in the forums.

It looks like so far your marionettes are built with static joints. As a display piece that is kind of cool since it shows movement.  In fact often when a marionette is displayed that has moving joints the strings are rigged so that the puppet looks like it is mid movement of walking or gesturing.  Much more interesting then just hanging there limp.

Tons of information already scattered about in the forums but if you have specific questions please feel free to ask. You can either start a new post or add on to an existing one.  Were not picky here.

Aw thanks! Yes my marionettes aren't really to be worked with, they're to be hung as installation pieces. I am going to create proper ones soon to perform with, once I've waded through all my degree work!!

Thanks for the pictures! I particularly enjoyed Punch and the Crocodile. I love to see how people interpret something as traditional as Punch and Judy.
