[Tip] Red Devil Dragon Skin Steel Sanding Sheet Posted by Shawn on Feb 24, 2013
Got a tip the other day from the wardrobe mistress on a kids character show I worked. When working with L200 foam she was using Google Search: Red Devil Dragon Skin Steel Sanding Sheet" to shape L200 foam. She said that once you got the shape you wanted you could heat the surface of the foam with a hot gun or hair dryer and it would smooth out nicely. Thought I would pass on the tip to everyone.

Looks promising.  A few years ago our church added some 'Disney' like decorations to the entrance of the children's wing.  The gentleman who built them used an industrial strength expanding foam.  Something similar to the foam in a can, but hardens like a rock.  He then used what I know believe is that sanding steel to smooth and shape the design.  Thanks for the info. I hadn't thought about that for use on the L200.  Good tip about the hair dryer as well.  Thanks.

I think maybe not all hair dryers get as hot as others so you might have to experiment with that one. Pretty sure a hot gun would though. Have to be very careful with them though. Keep them moving and not to close to your product. Always be aware for fumes that can be released when using heat on products. Your melting or burning the product in essence so there is likely to be some type of fumes being released. Rule of thumb is if it smells bad it is bad for  you.

NICE! Awesome tip.

I've been using a hair dryer to flatten my L200 when it's been rolled for too long, but had never thought about sanding it. Can't wait to try this!
