Puppet Display Stands Posted by ArthurS on Mar 04, 2013
Its a month out from my first real attempt to sell at a craft show and 2 months out from the big one for me.  so I thought I better come up with a better way to display the puppets than a dozen+ drum stands.  Here's what I cam up with.

I cut 4 2x4s to 34" lengths and 4 to 42" lengths.  There was no real science to the lengths.  One table I had to use was 42" and the next smaller board I had to use as a base was 34".  So I went with those measurements.

Each Horizontal was 6" each vertical was 8".  In hindsight, I'd at least change the vertical to 10" and maybe 7" on the horizontal, but this works fine.

I got a bunch of PVC reducing joints.  the large side fits a 3/4" PVC pipe.  I drilled holes in the 2x4s at 9 inches apart (I might go 10"-11" if I were to do it again but this gives me room for more puppets in the space I had),just large enough to fit the smaller end of the joint, and glued these in place.

I then painted them black...

Cut 3/4" PVC Pipe into 18" lengths...

Put the pipe pieces into the stand...

And Wallah!  Here is the larger one full. Yes its a little crowded, but this will give me the most puppets in the smallest table area.

Okay, now back to puppet making.

Nice display stand. Thanks for sharing the process.  Makes for a really nice family photo.

My husband and I were just talking about this over the weekend. Nicely done!

And your puppets look great. I esp. like the one on the far left, who looks like she's coming in through the door. So lifelike! (kidding )

That's funny Lola. You know I didn't even notice her till you said something and I went back and looked. At least she is fully clothed unlike the guy who took a picture for a product on eBay and his reflection in the mirror showed him in his birthday suite.

I noticed her when I took the picture.  So I took a second one.  apparently, I forgot why I took the second one by the time I posted it. lol

Our stands are all made from PVC. Some stand on the floor, others sit on tables. I have a satin type fabric that I cut x's in and slide down over the upright pieces. This gives it a nice finished look, especially for the stand alone racks.

Are you selling at a general  craft show, or one specifically for clowning/schools/ministry supplies?  I've done 2 ministry conferences in the past two weeks. Selling and teaching. Had great sales.

The first is a standard craft show, but at a Christian School.  so maybe some ministry possibilities.  the second is the clown/magician convention I was making all those for.

I bought fabric to cover them but after finishing them, Thought it might not be necessary.  we'll see.

Very nice display, they are all so happy and there is lots of variation.  One of the best groups of puppets I have seen.
