Mary Ann Taylor (MAT Puppets) Posted by vids4kidstv on Mar 06, 2013
Just thought this might be a good place to post these videos. It was recorded and given to me by my close friend Charles Cullen. I then edited it for ItsTimmysVlog.

Thanks.  She is so good. The announcer guy was driving us crazy, flipping his lid. LOL.

These have obviously been around a while, since she has increased the base price by $175.   Does anyone know if she teaches classes in puppet making?

Hello MsPuppet,
Mary doesn't make them anymore. She has passed the trade to her daughter. I am sure she helps out a lot though. The announcer guy is good friends with her and she gave him private lessons. Thanks for viewing !!

I found the videos informative, and was rather surprised at some of the materials/techniques used.  Curious - does anyone else use bleach bottles as body forms?  I can see the advantage to the rigidity they offer, but wonder about how well they hold up over a long period of time.  I have repaired a number of puppet mouth plates (all for the same company, not MAT). These were a rigid plastic that cracked and broke over time.  Every time someone contacts me and says "I have a puppet from ________ and it needs to be repaired," I know they are going to tell me the mouth plate is cracked or broken.

Another thing I found interesting was when she said she cuts the foam with scissors.  I know we have had several discussions on this forum about cutting foam.  For the life of me I cannot get a good even cut with scissors. There must be something I am missing (coordination maybe). LOL.

Hi! Yes sometimes i use The same techniques, but not in all caracters, i use The scissors not To cut but To sculpt The foam.
It talkes a lot of hours for a Nice finishing, but The result it's a unique puppet.

Best wishes
Oscar

I often use scissors to cut out foam for patterned puppets. I would say it is about as even as cutting with an electric knife. Both for me are a bit touchy at times.   Luckily I always cover my foam in fabric so don't have to worry if it is a perfect cut. Remember though that foam is going to dull the edge of what ever you are cutting with so don't use your good fabric scissors.
