I want to make my own removable arm rods for my puppets. I know doll joints are used for inside the hands and piano wire for the rods but I cant seem to find the gauge...suggestions?

I am pretty sure this has been discussed on this site before. Have you tried putting 'gauge' into the search function?

I would go with 16 or 18.

The gauge I use for piano wire for rods 3/32 inches.  You maybe able to go a bit smaller if the hand is really light...if the hands wobble as you move them around then the wire is to weak to work for rods...basically the rods should control the hands not the hands control the rods. I hope this helps?
