So how long did it take to animate that 11 seconds? Looks pretty cool.

Woah, what program did you use to do that pagestep? That's dead clever!! No pressure lokiy2j, but I think that's a winning idea for your illustrations!! :D

yes I'm defo going to be looking at that, and I suspect those 11 seconds took a while...just a feeling that animating that whole second story will be a biiiiig job! though I hear the Simpsons just farm it out to the Chinese!

Hi Guys, I used 'GIMP' to do the prep work, and Anime Studio to do the animating. The prep takes a while, like in this case half an hour or and hour to cut things out, and that varies depending on the complexity of your animation and how many components you are going to use, and if the components are drawn separated or not, etc... but once that is done, you can use them over and over again. A standard head, front on like this, for example, could be reused in almost every shot. You only have to prep it once, and you just change the backgrounds.
The animating took about 5 mins maybe. That will vary according to the complexity of your shot. And the longest part... the rendering, which is dependent on your computer. This 11 seconds was a Sunday afternoon project of about a couple hours, start to finish.
This kind of animation is really a kind of puppetry. You build your puppet but in 2D, and animate that puppet on a time line.If you draw the 10 phonemes (lip positions) the program can do the lip sinc automatically, to a degree. In this case I did 4 positions and manually synced it. That is why it took 5 mins. The eye blinks were 3 drawings, and copy and paste on the time line ad infinitum.
Anime studio costs $50us for the basic version. You can do it in GIMP if you do not have a budget, but somewhat slower. Do you think a video tutorial would be useful?
