Thanks for your help!! We had the first of two presentations last night and the lighting was MUCH improved!!! It is not perfect...for us... but much better viewing for the audience. We did mount the two UV Canons on stands and moved them back into the audience actually. There was one row in front and it did not really create any distracting glow. I guess it was still too close and underneath the Canon to get much direct UV light. That was good! So now that we know... kind of ...where the need to be, they will get permanently mounted to the ceiling to eliminate the stands.
We put down some black cloth to cover as much of the floor we could and it helped but not the greatest solution. We could not cover as much as we wanted because we are moving around some and the cloth gets all wrinkled up. So we were afraid of creating a tripping hazard for some of the performers.
Anybody use anything else or have any suggestions? We need to cover about 15X30 to really hide us.

There is something called Marley that dance companies use. In fact many Broadway shows that tour use it also. It comes in rolls and they roll it out on the surface of the stage. They use black gaff tape on the seams and at the edges to hold it down. I assume you need something that can come up and go down... or at least I think I remember reading that. Now the only thing is Marley can be pretty expensive. But it did get me to thinking that in the past I've gotten flat black vinyl in large width from the upholstery store. It would not be as thick and as durable as Marley but maybe it would work for you and might cost a bit less. If you have a carpet store you might be able to find a roll of black carpet that would be cheap. Try Google Search: Marley dance floor to see what I mean about the dance floor.

P.S. I was checking some of the links in the google search and wanted to point this one out. http://www.ten-o.com/Marley-and-Marlee-Dance-Floor,2714.html Have no idea if that is the best price you could find but it does a good job of explaining how to determine the square feet you need. Pretty sure that most places are going to be selling this by the square foot. I am betting that it is going to cost $500 or more though no matter where you get it. That being said, if you take care of it I doubt you'll ever have to replace it.

I will check it out. I do need to put it down & take it up for every presentation since it is our church worship area. I did check out black carpet but all I found was not completely black to UV. Thanks.

I think that the best option is a black velour that is the same weight and materials as your stage drapes, but that is often very expensive as Shawn mentioned. Whatever you use, the trick is to tape the floor covering down around the edges using gaffer's tape so no one trips. Gaffer's tape should not damage a floor (never use duct tape or packing tape!), but always test any tape/surface combination first.

I get the idea about same fabric as curtains. All blacks are not the same & that would insure consistency. I liked the Marley floor but too expensive. Foam mats tend to stay up indented from pressure & rubber stinks . So back to fabric & tape. Thanks!

Pat, we purchased plain flat black rugs from Walmart and this is what we use. We tape them down and they work perfectly! We can take them with us when we travel and they were affordable. We don't use them behind the stage, only out front. We do our shows in the gym and the floor is very shiny and reflective. These really made a difference!
