Removable puppet hat Posted by General Grunt on Mar 29, 2013
Does anybody know of a way to temporarily attach a hat to a puppet with a head of hair, without permanently gluing it to the head? So that way I can take it on/off when I want. I thought of Velcro, but I don't want to ruin the hair. Any ideas/tips?

What if you got small sew-on snaps and embedded them in the hair?  When the hat come off you won't see them.

I just use sewing push pins or sewing needles...it pretty much holds it in place.

Not sure about the suggestion using needles, as they could slip out since there is not a head or stop on one end.  Straight pins (used in sewing) with a plastic head on them, buy quilting pins, they are longer.  Corsage pins also work well, they are longer and thicker than straight pins.

Actually, hat pins of an appropriate length; afterall, they are designed to keep hats ... on. Now, if it's a wooden head puppet ...

That is the type of pin I was referring to...sorry it was the wrong name but mspuppet got it right...a hat pin maybe to large for a puppet.

If you want to get really fancy and it is going to be a puppet that wears the hat a lot taking it off and on, you could use earth magnets in the head and hat to hold it on.

Thanks for all these tips! The magnet idea I had actually, but what's the difference between an Earth magnet and a regular one?
Re: Removable puppet hat Posted by StiqPuppet Productions on Mar 30, 2013
Earth magnets are far more powerful...they are more expensive the regular magnets would not do anything they barely hold up stuff on fridges...I had a bit of a harder time with magnets and attaching hats which I usually use for many props but u might have better success than me...good luck with it.

I tried small clear baby buttons sewed behind the ears with elastic loops in the hat on each side to go over the buttons.  They hold it on good but loops are hard to get back on the tiny button unless you use a crochet hook.  I like the earth magnet idea, those things hold tight.
