Re: Puppets swinging swords and doing Kung Fu? Amazing. Simply Amazing Posted by Andrew on Apr 05, 2013
Unfortunately, I don't think there are plans to do official English translations any time soon. Pili tried to bring their shows to North America about ten years ago, but an American company turned them in to a badly dubbed & edited kid's show called Wulin Warriors that bombed on Cartoon Network.
Pili is focused on expanding in to the Mainland Chinese market now, which makes sense for them (the language is the same and it's more culturally relate-able).
Maybe someone could make fan subs for these?

Those movements were so fluid and lifelike I wondered if they were a person with a mask and gloves. Are they for real all puppet?

Hi Andrew! Yes I know. I just wish this show will be released in North America again. I've searched on youtube and only found 12 subbed episodes:

I'm not sure. But I believe they are.

Yes they are. Andrew will know more about it than I do, but they are done using glove puppets, with perhaps minor modifications for the more complicated movements - [blatant advertising!] Andrew discussed it a bit recently in my interview with him:

There are links on that page to various videos he's posted of the puppets.

In a great coincidence, I just found this:

Info about the style of puppetry from the Taiwanese government website.

Thank you very much for these sites. They're really helpful!

I'm not sure. But I believe they are. They are. Pili does enhance its puppetry with a lot of special FX, but the underlying performances are just good, old fashioned skill. A lot of Taiwanese puppeteers do this trick where they make a puppet pull an arrow from a quiver and then use a bow to fire it at a target (and hit it!). They also throw puppets on and off their hands, sometimes switching in mid-air. It's mind boggling to watch.
