Actually, not really a new play in Australia - the company (Creature Technology) that made King Kong is also behind Walking with Dinosaurs (stage play) and the stage version of How to Train Your Dragon. The company is also based in Australia, so while the shows are aimed at international audiences (ie. big 'Broadway' shows only come here if they're first profitable elsewhere, so producers wouldn't spend the money on something this big if they intended it to only be done in Australia), they usually premiere Creature Tech shows here first.

I can't afford to go... but I'd love to see it!

Absolutely incredible!! I always marvel at the amazing creations that creature technology make, I always loved the dinosaurs and dragons and now I am blown away by their king kong and the puppeteers that work him, just beautiful and I wish I was part of it all!!!
walking with dinosaurs is coming to Nottingham uk soon and I intend to go see it, im going to get up close and personal with the creatures as I know the stage director and im positive he will organise something for me and my crew on such an important occasion!!
id love to see king kong live, although im sure I would revert to a 5 year old boy and start to dribble with excitement when the 'big puppet' came out!!

Haha - don't worry about reverting to a 5 year old, I know one of the guys at Creature Tech and he is pretty much the same when it comes to dinosaurs.

I do wish I'd gotten to see the other two shows as well. It's a pity that although they are based in my home town, I never can afford the tickets to see the shows. I had hoped to organise a backstage/interview for this time around, but it never panned out. Good luck getting backstage!

Ahh... yes is he not just incredible!  Thought I had posted before about this also but can't find it.  There is a lot more footage out there including behind the scenes stuff. Well worth hunting down!

Guess one is the actual production of the shows maybe and the other is the workshops end of it.  In my mind they are one in the same. The one  you posted actually has more behind the scenes stuff and is the one I had found before.

I think actually yours is their 'international' face, whereas the one I posted is their 'local' one... Quite often for Broadway shows they'll create a local website which focuses on shows in that area, but have a global one which tells you where the show is in the world and where it's going to be. (Ie. http://www.lionking.com/ vs http://www.thelionking.co.uk/)

Anyway... a very long in-depth review of King Kong. LOTS OF SPOILERS so if you don't want to know anything at all, do not read. But there's a lot of resources at the end of the post, and give away a bit but not too much and are definitely worth viewing if you want.

The sum is: this is a MUST for anyone interested in puppetry. There is a lot that can be learned, whether you're a beginner or not. As for the rest, well ... ... meh....
