Ears and attaching them Posted by Jeroen van Ooijen on May 31, 2013
Hello, how to make ears like Walter from the muppetmovie and attach them on the roly puppet! So many questions

Not very hard really... It is pretty much just two circles of fabric sewn together then turned right sides out. You then "pinch" one side of the circle to give the ear some shape. This page kind of shows what I mean. http://sotosofties.blogspot.com/p/finger-puppet-tutorial.html Look at how she cut and made the blue ears. That is kind of close to the shape you would want. The extra point at the bottom of the "circle" gives you a tab of sorts that you can use to attach to the head where you want. Cut a slit in the head very small where you want the ear and then push the tab through to the inside. Then sew it all back up. Take some paper and cut different variations of a circle to play with the shape you want.

So you must sew it into the head of the puppet?

Yes you would sew them in. Some people may glue them but I prefer to sew them.
This is not an exact pattern! Posted by Shawn on Jun 01, 2013
Ok this is just a quick drawing I did to illustrate the shape you want. I don't think it would really work as a final pattern but it might. I've expanded a bit on my original explanation and added a dart into to. The dart is what may be off really. It may need to be not as wide although the length should be about right.
So you would cut two of these for each ear and sew up the darts. Then sew the two together and turn right side out. You insert the end that has the dart into slit in the head. The dart helps to give the ear some curve.
