Smaller movements are better than large ones to make a puppet look really alive. Little things make a big difference.

If you are going live, record yourself so you know how your delivery is.

Don't be static. Your puppet should always be moving. If you observe people talking or singing, they don't stand stiff like a picket fence, but they are always moving, slightly. Most of this could just be slight movement of the head, but don't just hold your puppet still and move it's mouth. Not natural.

Pay attention to where your puppet is looking. Don't let it stare up at the ceiling.

Practice, learn, practice more, learn and still practice. Try in front of a mirror do expressions and just get a feel on how your working your puppet. U have more control over small puppets than larger size ones.

1000% what Chris said. eye focus makes or breaks it for me.
