An Idea for a Puppet show--what do you think? Posted by NimhShambler on Jul 16, 2013
So, I've been working with marionettes for a month or so (after finding and repairing the one my dad made for me 22 years ago. It's a dinosaur named Burchees, if anyone's curious)and hand puppets since I was a teenager, and I was thinking, every puppeteer needs a show. I thought about it for a while (like, longer than I'd like to admit), and it finally hit me: Creepypasta*. I love creepypasta, and I've never really seen anyone do puppet show versions of creepypastas. I know that there are some that I likely won't be able to do (Like "Doors" for instance. The second the audience sees the puppet, the ending is blown)and some that will be really hard and I'll need help with (Like "Russian Sleep Experiment"), but I think it's a good idea. What do you guys think (just to clarify, these shows will not be for children. I don't want to frighten any kids)?

(*For those that don't know, creepypastas are scary stories on the internet that are generally passed off as being true (though most if all are not). Famous 'pastas are "The Slenderman", "Jeff the Killer", "Smile.dog", and "Haunted Majora's Mask, aka: BEN Drowned")

It could work, it all depends on how you approach it. Hand in mouth or "Muppet" style puppets are inherently comical so if you don't do it right then the stories may not come off as scary. Then again you could approach it from the angle of doing the stories in a tongue in cheek manner so they are funny versions of the stories. Can be hard to do.  Marionettes on the other hand could make the series a lot more scarey. Many find them creepy even in children stories.

I think I'll mostly use marionettes, but I'm also going to do "trollpasta" from time to time as comedic relief (troll pastas are creepypastas that are so bad that they are funny, but they are meant to be bad. Ones that aren't are called "Crappypasta"). Thanks for the tip, I'll probably use hand in mouths for the troll pastas.

Since I had not heard of Creepypasta, I decided it was time to do some research. http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Creepypasta Even has a site dedicated to it. http://www.creepypasta.com/

Sounds interesting.  Out of curiosity, where did the name Burchees come from?

Around my house, "Burchees" is a colloquialism for pants. It is a corruption of britches.
